Unwise to lose pearls for money

Modern sophisticated communication infrastructure helped the world to become a global village. The need to communicate in a common language had aroused, particularly in business and scientific communities. "English" had become the choice to fulfill the purpose due to myriad reasons. As a result, this globalization is driving all of us to learn English.

The obsession with one language should not cause the extinction of another. Many Buddhist literary scriptures were written in Pali, an Indic language.Now it has become extinct. The researchers are learning it with a lot of effort. It becomes more difficult to understand the literary scripture like Tipitaka, a Pali canon if the language is extinct. Similarly, dying of many other languages causes the loss of the invaluable knowledge attained by humans.

Many parents wish their children to be good in English. It's fine. But I found some parents who are crazy about one language and don't teach mother tongue to their children. It's a matter of concern as future generations can't know our traditional culture and language. More importantly the beauty and knowledge in them vanishes forever.

In our world there are thousands of languages and dialects. Every language is unique and has its own beauty. Please, don't make them vanish from this world.

So true !! People have to understand that English must be a medium of language to talk to people of other languages. Not within the house.

I cant get the meaning of speaking in English in a place where all the people know their mother tongue.

@Karteek: I agree with you.

@anon : I too felt odd while using that word.

Past, Present and Future - All are abstract.
