LOTR - Tourism in India

There are many travelogues in the local book store which inspire us to visit the historical places around the world. But most of time we don't read those books unless we are very much interested to know about the place or intended to visit it. I think these books promote only a meagre proportion of tourism.

The news headlines such as "New Zealand tourism doubled due to J.R.R.Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, Dan Brown's controversy novel boosted European tourism" are quite interesting. The tourists are more intrigued by the nature's wonders and ancestor's secret puzzles. Of course there is no specialty in people showing the interest on the places of crypts and it not at all new. But the amount of interest is worthy to note. Internet and other media is also playing vital in arousing enormous interest.

Well, I thought it is a new phenomenon and I was wondering why not a similar attempt can be done to expose the marvellous Indian temples to the world.

After thinking more about it I realized that this phenomenon is not at all new to Indians especially to our ancient kings. All the temples which are built by the mighty kings of our country tell us some interesting magical stories, some real and some myths with paintings, sculptures depicting them. These stories are famous bed time stories for kids told by mother, grandparents. The kid gets inspiration to visit at least once those places in his life time. As the transport was very bad during olden days, visiting Kashi, Amarnath, both Lord Shiva's sacred temples is considered as life time mission. Currently you can observe thousands of devotees visiting temples daily. These are the results of great folk tales of several generations. And I can say temples play an important role in Indian tourism.
